2012 Shooting & Meeting Calendar(pdf)News letter and open results
29th & 30th October 2011
Hi Fellow Members,
Please find attached results from this weekend's Open competition at the TP&RC range at Mangalore.
It a shame a few more of you were not there it was a great shoot. Maisie & I have had Dean Brus and his family staying with us for ten days he conducted coaching sessions in Launceston and shot air pistol with NWPC on Tuesday night in Ulverstone.
Then we brought them down to Mangalore for the open shoot and they flew out from Hobart this afternoon.
Dean shot a very fine score of 885 in Unrestricted Service with a clicker (one shot did not go off) if that one had been a 10 the score would have been 895/900.
Dean is a very good coach and encourages shooting at all levels and is only to willing to help anyone anytime, he has no secrets, and he keeps you captivated with interesting ideas to improve your shooting.
My observation over the 10 days if you wish to improve your shooting the main thing is you have to train, train and train, I mean do something towards it every day.
Dean's 15 year old son also competed whist he was here and he is well on the way to becoming a champion.
Regards,
Bob Young

The PA ISSF Australian Championships have got under way at the Adelaide Pistol Club South Australia and we have got away to a good start with Christopher Banfield placing 7th in WA1500 Revolver Match and 9th in the WA1500 Pistol Match
This is all the more creditable as Chris only purchased his revolver a
month ago and has only shot the WA1500 match once.
That time being the Pistol Australia subsidised coaching event for WA1500 at
the Outram Pistol Club Victoria recently.
"CONGRATULATIONS" Chris well done, I can assure you he is a very proud man tonight.
A photo from the presentation ceremony with Chris receiving his badge.
The rest of the State Team is drifting in and I wish them all the best for the championships.

At the recent TPA meeting there was discussion on the TPA newsletter only going to members with email, the meeting decided it would cost in the vicinity of $400.00 per annum to print and post a newsletter every three months, so the decision was made to ask secretary's to keep an eye on the content of the email newsletters and to post them on their clubs noticeboards if appropriate.

The Tasmanian Pistol Championships at Mangalore have been run and won and a very good weekend was had by those that attended.
Sadly only 28 competitors made that choice, these were made up from the following clubs eight NWPC, six TP&RC, six VDPC, four FPA, one DPC and we had three mainland visitors with one from ANZ Pistol Club Victoria, one from Beaconsfield Pistol Club Victoria and one from Townsville Pistol Club Queensland, we hope you enjoyed your time spent with us.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't all that kind.
Dave and Kerry-Ann and a very small band of helpers did a good job
The extra trophies supplied to the grade shooters by TP&RC and the Aggregate trophies supplied by the Steen & Crlik families was appreciated.

We had the TPA Committee of Management meeting at Ross on Sunday, during the meeting there was discussion on how our State ISSF & PA teams are chosen and following the debate it was decided to open up the criteria to Club Rostered shoot scores as long as they are signed by the Range Officer and a Club Official.
It was felt there may be members out there that due to various reasons may not be able to attend State & Open Championships and therefore not be eligible for selection.
I have attached a revamped nomination form, if the secretaries could put one on your notice boards and distribute amongst your members as widely as possible please.
The nomination forms that have already been returned to me are satisfactory and do not have to be replaced.
If anyone has any useful news items, please get in touch.

Not much news on the shooting scene this week, I have attached the program for the Open shoot at VDPC again and hope to see a lot of you there.
I have also attached a photo of how to test your trigger weight at home, over the years I have seen all sorts of weird and wonderful ways, but I was speaking with Dean Brus in Orange and he passed this one onto me which is very simple, most kitchens these days will have digital scales as part of the required gear.
I got a 3lb honey container, bent a piece of wire each end at 90 deg. Cocked the firearm and hung the contraption all on the trigger, making sure the barrel was vertical and started pouring water into the container until the hammer fell, then weigh the container and don't forget to include the wire.
As long as your scales are accurate you will get the correct weight of your trigger.
If someone has got a better or simpler way, I am all ears.

I have attached a NOMINATION FORM for State ISSF & PA Service Team selection it is self explanatory.
At this point is an expression of interest only so I can get an idea who is interested in making the effort to be selected and go to the National Championships in Adelaide next Easter.
If the Secretary's of each club could distribute these and put a copy on your notice boards I would be grateful.
